My life in overload...

My first attempt at a gumpaste shoe

Spiderman birthday cake for my nephew

Michelle Bommarito and I after I got off work and went to Party Cakes N Things for some supplies. This was the day before the cake show.

My last minute change on my entry since things didn't go as planned. I didn't want to show up empty handed so I gave it my best shot.

The plan for the cake was a monkey on his banana hammock attached to two palm trees chilling in the sun. At least some of it came out the way I wanted it to. Next time.

The awards I won at the show.

This isn't the actual cheesecake I entered in the show, but a test run on some friends of mine. It was a Mint Julep cheesecake with homemade mint jelly on top.

A dummy cake with colorflow butterflies and dots.

October Daring Cooks Challenge

Blog-checking lines: The October 2009 Daring Cooks’ challenge was brought to us by Jaden of the blog Steamy Kitchen. The recipes are from her new cookbook, The Steamy Kitchen Cookbook.

This months Challenge was chosen by Jaden of Steamy Kitchen http://steamykitchen.com/ and what a great use of time this was. This recipe was chosen to teach you how to toast spices and how to make a great broth. Jaden chose Chicken Pho(fuh), a Vietnamese noodle soup. This dish does have a long grocery list, but once you have all the groceries at hand the rest is easy. This soup is so quick to make if you purchase the broth that you can make it any day of the week and have enough time to actually sit down and enjoy it.

For the ingredients and instructions you can go to Jaden's site and while you're there you just may see something else you would like to try.

TWD:Split Level Pudding

This weeks TWD was chosen by Garrett of http://theflavorofvanilla.blogspot.com/ and it was a simple item to make. I already had egg yolks in my fridge so doing this TWD was a no brainer. The pudding was vanilla, but underneath was a surprise of ganache. I didn't care much for the way the ganache set up, however I did like the chocolate flavor it lent the vanilla.

When I made the pudding I put all of it in ramekins, big mistake. I'm the only one who like vanilla pudding so I used a few of the ramekins of pudding in a Boston Cream Pie and let's say "it didn't last long". It amazes me how one may not like something separately, but if you combine it with something else their all over it.

You can check out Garrett's blog for the recipe or purchase Dorie book.

Thanks Garrett for giving me a way to use up some yolks and a reason for Boston Cream Pie!!!
